I Said Biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiitch!

For those of you who don't know, I work in a liquor store. As we were closing for the night, a drunken girl from the bar (about a 5 minute walk away) started knocking on the door. We let her know we're closed, but she continued to knock and make "sad faces" through the window. This is nothing new. We get it almost every night. The only difference was that this girl would not let up. She walked over to the other windows and knocked even harder.

I finished cashing out, so I decided to entertain myself a little by seeing exactly what her deal was since she insisted on waving me over and flashing her phone. She began texting... Sorry, TRYING to text a former employees name, but she was so inebriated, she could barely get the name spelled correctly. I informed her that the person was no longer with the company and she yells "I know!" Then she shows me the name again as if it's a free pass into the liquor store. As if I'll say "Oh, you know someone I know? Well, right this way, Stumbley! I know we're locked up and in the process of cashing out for the night, but you definitely look like you could use another drink! Liquor laws be damned! We know someone in common!"

What makes people, especially attractive girls, so self-entitled? I've seen her come in before and quite frankly, she's a cunt. She's rude, dismissive and I'm sure, a cadaverous lay.

Later on, I was thinking about it and I hope my generation, the people who are having kids now do the next generation a favor: Please, don't give you children everything they want. Let them know disappointment. Not all the time... but I believe that a little dose of soul-crushing disappointment every once in a while goes a long in way in building character and setting them on a track that may be won't have them knocking for 20 minutes on the window of a liquor store in the freezing cold at 2AM on a Thursday night.

Make time to talk to your kids and have honest discussions with them because this situation would have been funnier if it wasn't so sad.

Marvel's The Avengers Review

The Avengers are gathered by S.H.I.E.L.D. to save the world from an incredibly hostile takeover by Loki and his alien army.

The movie is a triumph! The sixth installment of an on-going epic in the true sense.

I was slightly worried when they initially hired Zak Penn to write The Avengers since he was responsible for writing such comic book stinkers as Elektra, X-Men: The Last Stand and Fantastic Four (take into consideration they were all executed by Fox, and I don't mean executed as in "made into films" I mean executed as in "taken under a bridge and shot in the back of the head"). Even Edward Norton felt he needed to re-write Penn's script for The Incredible Hulk before he took on that film, so you could understand my concerns in the beginning. Fortunately, when comic book fanatic and Buffy creator Joss Whedon was hired to direct (an inspired choice in my opinion) he had the opportunity to re-write The Avengers and touch up the Captain America scripts. I hope Marvel gives Whedon the chance to stay as a constistant presence for the studio. His style and comedy really shine through, knowing every characters personality, traits and history. You can tell he's a big fan and knows what fans want.

Chris Evans is perfect as Captain America! I was happy to see him more as the leader, butting heads with Tony Stark and even getting to steal a couple scenes being inadvertently hilarious! Well, inadvertently on the characters part. Intentionally for the film, of course.

It was really cool taking a sneak peak into Tony Starks life with Pepper Potts since Iron Man 2. As well as getting to see some new Iron Man armor. Robert Downey, Jr. really turns up the smugness and it's awesome.

Thor was great and his introduction to The Avengers, meshed very well. Especially with what was established in the first 10 minutes. Chris Hemsworth emodies the comic book character, Thor.

As for Bruce Banner, I still like Norton the most, but nobody could possibly hate Mark Ruffalo. He looks like the nicest guy who ever lived. It did take me a while to get used to him in the role, but goddamn that was one hell of a HULK! If anything, the Hulk stole the show. That's all I'll say about that.

Loki has to be the best comic book villain since Ozymandius in Watchmen. He looked liked the a walking, talking human virus that had to be destroyed before it killed everything and everyone.

Black Widow was a surprise favourite. I don't think she used her stingers all that much, if at all and I wished they had filmed that Hawkeye/Black Widow Budapest adventure they kept referencing. Scarlett Johansson whipped herself into unbelieveable shape for this!

Hawkeye was cool, but he was the one Avenger who seemed a little off. I didn't really dig his costume and his lack of head gear was distracting. The tidbits concerning he and Widow's backstory were good, but at least one film featuring them should be in order.

Nick Fury is kind of mundane. It feels like Samuel L. Jackson is just going through the motions.

The action was mind-blowing. The more I think about it, the more I want to watch it all over again.

Next year Marvel Studios plan to release Thor 2, Iron Man 3 and Captain America 2 in 2014. I hope to see an Ant-Man, Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Luke Cage or a little Namor in there.

My take on the Oscars 2012

I wanted to watch as many films as I could this past week. Unfortunately, I failed trying to catch up on nominated films and watched mostly movies that were not nominated and... I don't know why. Of the Best Picture category, I have seen Moneyball and The Help. That's it.

Of the leading actresses nominated, once again I have only seen Viola Davis in The Help. If I were voting, I would have nominated Evan Rachel Wood in The Ides of March. Unfortunately, she will never be nominated until she breaks up with Marilyn Manson.

Of the supporting actors nominated, I have seen two of the films; Moneyball and Warrior. As much as I love the guy, I do not think Jonah Hill deserved the nomination. I would have rather seen Albert Brooks nominated for Drive. The person I would like to see win is Nick Nolte in Warrior.

Of the supporting actresses nominated, I have seen two films; The Help and Bridesmaids. I do not get why Bridesmaids is so popular. It's a phenomenon that so many people agree it's great when it's really not. Yes it was funny, but the last 40 minutes was excruciating. Jessica Chastain gave the best performance in The Help, she deserves to win. Although everyone in that movie gave stellar performances, especially Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, Bryce Dallas Howard and Allison Janney.

Of the films I've seen this year, I would say 50/50 would have gotten my vote for Best Picture.

The Ides of March

This was the third Ryan Gosling film I saw in the past year and as much as I love all of his movies, it almost seems as though he's been phoning it in, in these last couple. I can't deny his onscreen presence, I mean, the man is magnetic and really fun to watch, but with the scope, talent and emotions playing in The Ides of March, I think I was expecting a little more from him. That said, I saw this with no idea of what the movie was going to be about and came away from it with a loathsome respect for the game of politics.

Evan Rachel Wood is one of my top 5 favourite actresses in Hollywood and I didn't even realize she was in the movie until I popped it in. The way she was introduced, I saw potential for her to be detrimental to the story, when she actually became an extraordinary character. In my opinion, she was definitely robbed of an Oscar nomination for best actress.

For the first time, you see George Clooney's acting range. He shifts from a idealistic public figure into a cut-throat politician. I was very happy to see this since I figured this movie would be another one of his charming, nice guy-type of roles. He's not in the film as much as the trailers would lead you to believe, but he really gives a great performance.



The rest of the supporting cast were great as well; Philip Seymour Hoffman, Paul Giamatti and Marisa Tomei! The Ides of March surprised the hell out of me and I would recommend it to anyone who is enthusiastic about film and appreciates a good drama.

George Clooney has definitely been one of my favourite directors since Confessions of A Dangerous Mind and The Ides of March doesn't disappoint.

Annah and I went to her brothers house last week to play a Mad Men drinking game. Every time someone took a drink, we had to take a shot of scotch. I am not a drinker and by the end of the first episode, I was floored and passed the fuck out.

Looking forward to doing it again, haha.

I am going to miss Christopher Nolan's Batman. Despite what people think of Christian bale's Batman voice, I think he's exceptional.

I thought this was a funny magazine quote from one of the Neveldine/Taylor, one of the directors of the new Ghost Rider movie. I don't know how it happened, but I am excited to see this after hating on the first Ghost Rider movie for so long.



This is from the Man of Steel set, the new Superman film! It gives you a little taste of what's to come with Zack Snyder's take on the classic hero. Warner Bros. defeinitely found a spectacular director in him. I'm very pleased with their choice.

I need to stop buying movies.

The holidays is the hardest time for me to not buy movies because there are so many deals, regardless how broke I am, I always get sucked into buying movies this time of year. During the holidays, I have started a Blu-ray collection despite the fact that I do not own a Blu-ray player. I figure if I amass a collection, one day (after Comic Con) I might purchase one, along with a nice television.

Alec Baldwin is the toughest comedic actor I could think of. The man is a chameleon! I currently watch him on 30 Rock.

Nick Offerman is an under-rated actor who is finally getting his due in Parks & Recreation.

Jim Sheridan would be the perfect choice to direct Fantastic 4 because he has a knack for tapping into the inner workings of family dynamics as seen in Brothers and In America. He would bring a whole other echelon of greatness that no other director could.


Mister Fantastic / Reed Richards - Mark Kassen

I've only seen Mark Kassen in a movie called Puncture and to me, he was the embodiment of Mister Fantastic. I have never seen someone so perfect for this role!


Invisible Woman / Susan Storm - Malin Akerman

Say what you will about Malin Akerman in Watchmen, I thought she was great! Not only that, but she is a stunning actress and of all the characters in the Marvel universe, she would shine as Susan Storm.

This video was released last week of someone in what was a concept piece for the Green Goblin in 2002's Spider-Man film. I might be in the minority, I don't know, but I liked the armor suit that was used in the movie. Of course it threw me off at first, but by the time I went into the theatres, I was over it. Willem Dafoe more than made-up for any ill will I might've had for the costume.



I tried to look for the clip where Green Goblin mists Spider-Man with a nerve toxin and talks to him on a rooftop. At one point, leaning against a vent and smacking Spider-Man over the head, telling him not to be stupid and join him. One of my favourite villain moments ever.

While promoting his new film, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Daniel Craig shared his thoughts on politicians who befriend Hollywood celebrities to seem cool.

"You immediately are aligning yourself with a political party. Politicians are s***heads. That's how they become politicians, even the good ones. We're actors, we're artists, we're very nice to each other. They'll turn around and stab you in the f***ing back."

I try to keep my expectations for the holidays to the lowest of lows. I figure I'm a twenty-something, who doesn't really deserve anything, so why should I expect anything? Y'know, those type of healthy, self-confident reasonings.

However, I was surprised to receive a $100 gift card from my step-dad, Gary. I figured the best deals would be happening today since it's Boxing Day and I went to one of those.. err--I'm gonna say twice, but not since I was a kid and I remember getting a assload of shit, too.

I was kind of hoping to see some deals again this year (and remember, this is coming from a guy who doesn't expect many things), but it didn't seem to be the case. I go to Wal-Mart maybe once or twice a month for food, cat stuff and/or cheap movies and I notice prices for the next time (sometimes even taking pictures of things as a reminder for later). When I went in today, none of those prices changed. It was just a bunch of signs posted, saying "BOXING DAY BLOWOUT" or "BOXING DAY SALES" and there was nothing about it that screamed "blowout" or "sale" because they were the same goddamn prices as they were the last time I was there and the time before that!

Is this Wal-Mart pulling back from the Boxing Day tradition of low prices? The only things I saw that were sporting low prices were a handful of movies. Everything else in that fucking mega store was the same price as it always was.

I picked up a pair of jeans that I haven't tried on yet, a much needed black belt and some other stuff I needed. The most noteworthy of things are these bad boys:

Alan Taylor will be the director of Thor 2!

First Marvel Studios decide to part ways with Kenneth Branagh after delivering a successful opening for a character, surprisingly most people weren't aware existed in comics, THOR. I really don't know why people seem to want to give this movie Hell. It's the first installment of a lucrative franchise, spear-headed by Marvel and Branagh. Thor's not as established as Spider-Man was when his first film came out, so I think it was a mistake getting rid of Branagh so early. Especially since I was keen to see him tackle Beta Ray Bill and he seemed excited as well.

Then Marvel Studios takes a look at Monster director, Patty Jenkins. I like her as a director and wonder why she hasn't done a second film. After convincing fanboys she was going to be good for Thor 2, she and Marvel parted ways over "creative differences".

Now it looks like Alan Taylor may be set to direct Thor 2.

I want to know what is up with Marvel Studios and maintaining their professional relationships with the talent. We saw it in the beginning when they stiff-armed Terrence Howard from returning as James Rhodes. It wasn't a big deal, it's just for continuity's sake, it would have been nice to seen him done the War Machine suit for at least one film.

We really saw the writing on the wall when they gave Edward Norton a longtime cold shoulder, followed up with an insulting letter to the public regarding his future, sans Bruce Banner and Marvel.

Then Marvel Studios parted ways with their former golden child, Jon Favreau after a less than successful sequel to Iron Man. To me, that seemed like Marvel dropping the ball more than it did Favreau. The Iron Man director had said in interviews from 2008, he had no idea what Marvel would do with an Iron Man sequel. It took them 3 years from the time Robert Downey, Jr. was named Tony Stark to when the actual film debuted. Then Marvel announced a release date for Iron Man 2 without consulting with anyone, including Favreau! Why would they think they could write a new script, breeze through post production and go into filming in less than a year? I guess that's the reason they got what they got.

I'd say Jon Favreau was the fall guy for Iron Man 2, which is a shame. Although he was saying some weird things about Iron Man 3, talking about possibly making the Mandarin Arab instead of Asian. I just think he was tired and delirious from making Cowboys & Aliens all day.

I say the next one to go is Scarlett Johansson. That bitch was complaining about having to keep in shape for Black Widow. Guess what? It's Hollywood! They pay you to look hot, not look like some flabby bitch with cottage cheese ass. That's roles being filed by Kathy Bates. ;)

I guess what I'm really saying is, good luck Alan Taylor and don't expect to be back for sequels!

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance trailer!


After Michael Steven Johnson's atrocious Ghost Rider movie, I didn't think there was any possible way I could get excited for a sequel, especially if he were returning as director. Luckily, Columbia Pictures felt the same way and fired his ass!

Columbia Pictures did a great service to Ghost Rider by hiring Neveldine/Taylor, two film directors who know what they want in an action film and who know how to do intensity. Something the first Ghost Rider sorely lacked, among other things.

I love Neveldine/Taylor's Crank movies. The first one I saw back in 2007 and was excited when I got to see a free pre-screening of Crank: High Voltage in Vancouver in 2009! After Crank, I heard they were working on a script for Jonah Hex and were attached to direct it as well.

I was not that familiar with the comics, so I decided to check them out, based solely on this information. Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray's Jonah Hex is now one of my favourite comic books currently. Although I heard they were recently let go from writing and drawing Jonah by DC Comics, which I think is a dumb idea since those guys had a bunch of ideas leftover they were never able to execute.

Unfortunately, there was some disagreements between Warner Bros. and Neveldine/Taylor on what type of film Jonah Hex should be. Warner wanted a PG film while Neveldine/Taylor wanted to make a rated R western. I guess that was not a leap Warner's was willing to take and stupidly fired the team from directing. At this point, the film was going through a re-write, half the film had been cast and pre-production had begun and in comes second time director, kid-friendly, Jimmy Hayward who completely butchered the character and movie. Even Josh Brolin made statements that he was upset with the outcome.

Shortly after being fired from Jonah Hex, Neveldine/Taylor are approached by Columbia Pictures to direct the sequel to Ghost Rider. Now I was torn, a director team I really liked are going to direct a sequel to a film I loathed with all my heart. I saw they were recasting a bunch of characters, which I didn't know if I was supposed to be happy or worried about. Then they started making statements about deciding not to use certain characters and making up their own.

THAT ALWAYS worries me.

If you have a comic book with a gallery full of characters to use at your disposal, and you find an opportunity to use one. Use them. Don't change their name, don't change their powers or give them powers if they don't have any. The only time I've ever seen a non-existing comic book character work in a movie was Agent Coulson in Iron Man and that's only because Clark Gregg is so damn charming.

I love the way Neveldine/Taylor are taking on the Ghost Rider. From the trailer, it looks like they're introducing a young Danny Ketch, which makes me wonder if they'll tie-up a trilogy with one more Nicolas Cage as Ghost Rider. I wouldn't mind seeing it because I don't think Johnny Blaze got his due in the first film and it would be a shame to have only ONE good Blaze movie before they begin introducing other Riders.
